Scientist Launches Dubstep Into Outer Space

For some years now, Dubstep has slowly risen out of the dark, bass driven underground scene in South London and Bristol and out into the mainstream. This has seen numerous producers have commercial success in the charts. However the "Scientist Launches Dubstep Into Outer Space" album shows what the most cutting edge and influential producers in the movement are now exploring and developing, merging the new and old and showing the musics connection to Jamican Dub . The names that feature on the album are a who's who of the dubstep scene, including, Mala, Pinch, Loefah, vex'd (under his guise of Armour) and even UEL's very own Kode 9. The album is the brain child of Pinch, head of the Bristol based label tectonic, who's releases over the years have been exceptional along with his album "Underwater Dancehall". The first CD in this two disc release consists of dubstep originals that were never expected to see the light of day. Tracks such as Shackeltons "Hackney Marshes" and Mala's "City Cycle" which had only previously been heard through mixes and were never expected to get released. It is this exceptional track listing of unheard and previously unreleased tracks that makes this album one of the most sort after compilations in the world of dubstep at the moment. The second disc is mixed by Scientist, one of the godfathers of dub reggae and is the link in this release between dubstep and its roots. However Scientist's subtle alteration to tracks through the use of heavier bass lines and kicks on the production do little to heighten what are already good tracks and only slightly alter the dynamic of the sound. The result is a compilation that consists of the widest outlook on the dubstep genre at the moment and the Scientist mix can only be seen as a bonus to what is already an amazing album.
